Singapore Airlines was the first to start a trial of the IATA Travel Pass at the end of 2020. Since then, Air New Zealand, Copa, Emirates, Etihad Airways, IAG, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Rwanda Air and Qantas have all been included. of the initiative, and IATA is in talks with all other airlines.

So what is the IATA Travel Pass, and what does it mean for travelers, airlines and the global travel industry?

In this exclusive video interview with IATA – Asia Pacific Regional Director of Airports and External Relations, Vinoop Goel, TravelNewsAsia.com’s Steven Howard asks questions about Timatic, why it is so important to the transportation industry airline, what it does and what role it plays in the Travel Pass that IATA is currently developing and testing with various airlines around the world.

Vinoop explains what the IATA Travel Pass is, how the launch, currently slated for late March 2021, will work and why it was created in the first place.

We discuss the security features of the IATA Travel Pass, whether a traveler needs to be connected to a mobile network or airport WiFi for this to work, and what happens if someone doesn’t have a smartphone. .

Vinoop explains the different modules of the IATA Travel Pass and tells us more about the contactless travel app which is designed to become a digital passport, or ID, which would allow a true contactless travel experience.

With so many hotels and airline tickets booked online, Steven asks if IATA is working with OTAs on the project, and as one of the main reasons for developing the IATA Travel Pass has been to stop the IATA Travel Pass. fake COVID19 test / vaccine use certificates, where does IATA draw the line and terminate the functionality of the Travel Pass?
