EUGENE, Ore. — Agents at Premier Travel & Cruise in Eugene report that their number of international travelers is approaching pre-pandemic levels despite higher-than-average ticket prices.

Travel agent Lauri Quinby said it currently costs more to travel abroad than it has in recent months for several reasons.

The first is demand. Quinby thinks people are more comfortable traveling now due to progress in the pandemic.

“It’s good, so people want to travel. So the numbers are coming back and they’re coming back fast,” Quinby said.

Second, rising fuel prices have led to higher prices for plane, train and cruise tickets. Given this increase, she said it’s best to book as soon as possible.

With much uncertainty in the situation in Ukraine, Quinby said many people had called the office asking for information about their travels to Eastern Europe due to security concerns. She said several of the agencies that provide transportation in that area have suspended their services for the time being.

As for Premier’s response, they said they are taking it day by day and offering their full suite of services at this time.
